What is Casa Cavazzini?
Casa Cavazzini is a modernist museum started by Venetian merchant Antonio Marangoni, who bequeathed his estate to the municipality of Udine in his will, stipulating that each year at least one work of art would be purchased to expand the civil collection.
Today, Casa Cavazzini showcases works by European and American painters created in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the aforementioned civil collection. This exhibition consists of nine rooms, each with a distinct theme that oscillates around human beings and human relations.
Casa Cavazzini also houses the FRIAM exhibition, which includes 113 paintings by American artists. They were donated to the museum to help the Friuli region after the 1976 earthquake.
„Insieme” exposition
The „Insieme” exhibition consists of a number of surrealist, expressionist and abstract works by prominent artists such as John Everett Millais, Franz von Stuck, Vasilij Kandinskij, Salvador Dalí, Alberto Savinio de Chirico, Renato Guttuso, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Giuliano Vangi, Gianfranco Ferroni, Tibor Csernus. The very title of the exhibition, which translated from Italian is „together,” suggests its message to us. The whole is divided into 9 rooms, each with a separate theme, oscillating around human life, human relations and society. Some describe love or intimacy, while others touch on slightly different themes, such as blood or heaven. Modernist art strongly influences our emotions, evokes questions in us – who are we?, what is really important? The exhibition begins and ends with the motif of the mirror, which reflects true human nature.
